Statement on Trump ending TPS for 500k Haitians

Elijah Manley released the following statement in response to President Donald Trump's administration ending Temporary Protective Status (TPS) for 500,000 Haitians:

"South Florida is home to the nation's largest Haitian immigrant community. The decision by President Trump's Administration to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 500,000 Haitians, is not only cruel but also deeply irresponsible, given the ongoing violence and humanitarian crisis in Haiti. This policy lacks a humane and structured deportation program and fails to acknowledge that forcibly returning people under such conditions is tantamount to a death sentence for many.

These actions are callous and undermine trust in the U.S. government-both among the Haitian-American community and beyond-by sending a message that those who follow the "legal" process and seek protection can be abandoned whenever it is politically expedient.

After decades of inaction on immigration reform, we must immediately extend TPS, provide pathways to legal residency, and work directly with Haiti and international organizations to ensure safe conditions before any repatriation efforts. Anything less is inhumane."
