Elijah Manley Announces Historic Bid for U.S. Congress in Florida’s 20th District, challenging embattled Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick

Fort Lauderdale, FL — Elijah Manley, a 26-year-old substitute teacher and community organizer, has launched his campaign for the Democratic nomination in Florida’s 20th Congressional District. If elected, Manley would be the youngest member of Congress, bringing with him a powerful, firsthand understanding of overcoming childhood poverty and homelessness. He is committed to championing the people of Broward and Palm Beach counties, bringing a bold and unwavering voice that will push for meaningful change in Washington.

“The people of this district deserve a member of Congress that is dedicated to their needs and understands their struggles,” said Manley. “From tackling the cost-of-living crisis to ending gun violence and ensuring healthcare for all, we need leadership focused on solutions—not scandals.”

Manley’s candidacy comes at a critical moment, as incumbent Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick faces a House Ethics Committee investigation and a state lawsuit seeking to recover $5.7 million in overpayments to her family’s healthcare company. With a razor-thin margin in the Republican-controlled House and President Donald Trump’s return to power, Democrats cannot afford vulnerabilities in this key district.

“We need a leader free from distractions and ethical baggage,” Manley continued. “Our democracy, our rights, and our futures are on the line.”

Manley’s grassroots campaign will engage voters through town halls, community organizing, and a commitment to putting people over special interests.
