Elijah Manley’s Democratic Campaign for Florida’s 20th Congressional District Announces $275k Raised

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 7, 2025

Fort Lauderdale, FL — Progressive teacher and activist Elijah Manley’s grassroots campaign for Congress announced today that since his launch on February 4, Manley’s candidacy has ignited a nationwide movement—raising over $275,000 from an incredible 11,000+ donors across all 50 states and D.C.

“South Florida’s working families are getting squeezed more every day. Our campaign is showing we have the momentum to fight for and win a better future,” said Manley. “While my opponent defends her political career amidst a state lawsuit and a congressional ethics investigation, we are building a grassroots movement across Broward and Palm Beach to elect the working class champion South Floridians deserve.”

Manley is running to unseat embattled Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, who is the subject of an ongoing congressional House Ethics Committee investigation for campaign finance violations. Her family-owned company faces a state lawsuit for $5.8 million in missing taxpayer funds in a scandal that has clouded her entire time in Congress.

A lifelong advocate for South Florida, Manley has advocated for voting rights, public education, a $15 living wage, LGBTQ+ equality, and economic justice. Manley is a teacher, activist, and board member of the Downtown Fort Lauderdale Civic Association.

“The incumbent’s political and legal scandals have robbed District 20 voters of our voice in Congress for years. It’s time to end the national embarrassment of a corrupt healthcare CEO representing this seat in Congress. I’m not afraid of standing up to entrenched power,” said Manley, “and that’s exactly what District 20 will need to make real change in Washington.”
