Manley Calls for Change as House Ethics Committee Report Details Embattled Democratic Incumbent

Fort Lauderdale, FL — Elijah Manley, Democrat for Congress in Florida’s 20th district, released the following statement on the House Ethics Committee’s official report on incumbent U.S. Representative Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick actions, detailing allegations with probable cause in violation of House rules, standards of conduct, and federal law:
“The people of Florida are sick and tired of political corruption, ethical scandals, and the legal maneuvers the wealthy and powerful use to escape accountability. The House Ethics Committee’s report details my opponent’s severe legal exposure — and her inability to serve the people of Florida’s 20th district with honesty and transparency,” Manley said.
“The report details a laundry list of criminal allegations after my opponent just settled a $5.6 million state lawsuit that will allow her to pay back millions of dollars her company owes the people of Florida through 2040. Our campaign is building a movement to bring accountability to the ballot box and send a real working class champion to Washington in Elijah Manley.”
Manley shocked political observers by outraising the incumbent by eighteen times in the Q1 FEC fundraising report in under two months, as Cherfilus-McCormick reported less than $4,000 cash on hand and millions of dollars in outstanding debts.
