Housing

Florida's housing crisis presents affordability challenges, especially in low-income communities. As a board member of the Downtown Fort Lauderdale Civic Association, Elijah has worked with municipal leaders and developers to encourage smart growth while maintaining community quality of life. In Congress, Elijah plans to secure funding for sustainable, inclusive housing solutions because housing is a human right.

Rents that make sense

Landlords are raising rents without any accountability. Elijah Manley will work with federal, state, and local stakeholders to establish a reasonable annual cap on rent increases so that working people aren’t being squeezed.

Invest in Public Housing

Our country has not made major investments in public housing since Reagan took office. Under Elijah’s plan:

  • We will increase investment for rebuilding and maintenance of existing public housing

  • Invest $20 billion in public housing projects to support municipal and state affordable housing efforts

  • Prioritize workforce housing for public sector employees

A Home to call yours

No one should be forced to live on the street because of their circumstances. Everyone deserves dignity and a chance to reach their American dream. In Congress, Elijah will:

  • Advocate for additional financial incentives for first-time homebuyers, including $20k in down-payment assistance; forgivable HUD loans for veterans, public sector employees, first responders, young first-time homebuyers, and disadvantaged communities.

  • $1b to fund District 20’s public, private, and charitable partners in their efforts to assist homeless individuals through housing-first initiatives with wrap-around case management.

  • Guarantee a public defender for eviction cases, because no one should be forced to navigate the judicial system on their own.

PROPERTY INSURANCE CRISIS

Property Insurance is out of control in Florida because our politicians are beholden to the property insurance companies. We need more regulation on property insurance companies, and prosecution of insurance executives for stealing from consumers.
